St. John Missionary Baptist Church is seeking a gifted, dependable, and spiritually mature part-time Keyboard Player to support the worship, music, and ministry life of our church. The ideal candidate will bring musical excellence, professionalism, preparation, and sensitivity to the worship culture of a multi-generational Black Baptist congregation.

 

Position Summary

The Keyboard Player will provide musical support for Sunday worship, weekly rehearsals, monthly worship encounters, and approved ministry events. This person will work closely with the Worship Creative Arts Director, clergy, choir, praise team, band members, and other ministry leaders to help create a worship experience marked by excellence, unity, and spiritual depth.

 

Regular Schedule

The regular schedule includes:

• Sunday Worship Service

  • 8:15 a.m. sound check

  • 9:30 a.m. call time/final preparation

• 10:00 a.m. worship service through dismissal

• Thursday Rehearsals

  • 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

• Monthly Wednesday Worship Encounter

  • Last Wednesday of each month

  • 7:00 p.m. through conclusion

 

Additional services or ministry events may be requested as needed.

 

Key Responsibilities

• Provide keyboard accompaniment for assigned worship services, rehearsals, and ministry events.

• Learn assigned music thoroughly before rehearsals and services.

• Support the choir, praise team, band, and worship leaders during rehearsals and live worship.

• Assist with musical arrangements, transitions, keys, cues, and stylistic refinements as needed.

• Communicate promptly and professionally with the Worship & Creative Arts Director.

• Arrive on time, prepared, and ready to serve.

• Help protect the unity, flow, and integrity of the worship experience.

 

Desired Qualifications

• Strong keyboard/piano and organ skills.

• Experience playing in church worship settings.

• Familiarity with gospel music, hymns, praise and worship, and traditional/contemporary church music.

• Ability to work with a team and follow worship leadership.

• Professionalism, punctuality, preparation, and spiritual maturity.

• Respect for the mission, values, worship culture, and ministry environment of St. John Missionary Baptist Church.

 

Compensation

Compensation will be discussed during the interview process and will be based on the ministry's needs, the scope of service, and the candidate’s experience and qualifications.
