Minister of Worship & Creative Arts

St. John Missionary Baptist Church is seeking a spiritually mature, imaginative, and collaborative Minister of Worship & Creative Arts to lead and oversee our church's worship and creative arts ministry. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for authentic worship, strong musical leadership, organizational excellence, and the ability to cultivate an environment where people encounter God through worship.
Position Summary
The Minister of Worship & Creative Arts provides leadership in various aspects of the church’s worship ministry, including music, choirs, praise team, musicians, dance, and drama. Working closely with the Senior Pastor, ministry leaders, and volunteers, this individual is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing worship experiences that reflect St. John Missionary Baptist Church’s mission, vision, and values.
The Minister of Worship & Creative Arts will foster unity among worship teams, develop volunteers and ministry leaders, oversee creative programming, and ensure that every worship experience is spiritually meaningful, technically excellent, and executed with professionalism.
Regular Schedule
The regular schedule includes:

Worship Service – Sundays at 10:00 am through dismissal

Wednesday Evening Services
-
Prayer – 6:45 pm
-
Bible Study/Night of Praise – 7:15 pm

Designated Weekly Rehearsals
-
Weekly Staff Meeting - Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. (Virtual or In-Person)

Office Hours - Twenty (20) hours per week
Additional services or ministry events may be requested as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Worship Leadership
-
Plan and oversee worship services in collaboration with the Senior Pastor.

Develop worship sets and service flow that support the preaching and ministry emphasis.

Lead rehearsals and ensure all worship participants are spiritually and musically prepared.

Direct choirs, praise team, musicians, and other worship participants during rehearsals and services.

Maintain excellence, unity, and consistency throughout every worship experience.
Music Ministry

Provide leadership for all the church’s music ministries.

Coordinate music selections, arrangements, and rehearsals.

Recruit, mentor, and develop musicians, vocalists, and worship leaders.

Establish schedules for choirs, praise teams, and musicians.

Encourage musical growth through ongoing training and development opportunities.
Creative Arts Leadership

Provide oversight for dance, drama, and other creative arts ministries.

Collaborate with ministry leaders to incorporate creative expressions into worship where appropriate.

Develop creative programming for seasonal productions, concerts, worship encounters, and special events.

Encourage innovation while maintaining the church's worship culture and biblical values.
Volunteer & Staff Development

Recruit, train, mentor, and support volunteers serving within the Worship & Creative Arts Ministry.

Build a healthy culture of teamwork, accountability, communication, and spiritual growth.

Provide leadership and guidance to ministry leaders and staff members.

Conduct regular planning meetings and ministry evaluations.
Administration

Develop and manage the annual Worship & Creative Arts budget.

Maintain accurate inventories of ministry equipment and instruments.

Submit schedules, reports, and planning information as requested.

Ensure ministry operations follow church policies and procedures.
Desired Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:

Commitment to the mission, vision, and values of St. John Missionary Baptist Church.

Experience leading worship within a Black Baptist or similar worship tradition.

Strong vocal and/or instrumental abilities with knowledge of gospel, hymns, traditional, and contemporary worship music.

Demonstrated leadership experience overseeing worship teams, choirs, musicians, and volunteers.

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to collaborate effectively with pastoral leadership and ministry teams.

Experience planning worship services and coordinating multiple ministry areas.
-
Proficiency with worship technology and church production environments is preferred.

Formal education in music, worship leadership, or a related field is preferred but not required. Equivalent ministry experience will be considered.
Compensation
The salary range for this position is $40,000–$50,000 annually. Compensation will be discussed during the interview process and will be based on the candidate's education, ministry experience, musical proficiency, leadership ability, and overall qualifications.
